Medical disclaimer

This page says plainly what Almaya Life is, what it is not, and where the limits of our work sit. It applies to everything on this site and to every sitting held at Thangajam Munril. If anything here is unclear, ask us before you book.

In an emergency

Do not contact us, and do not wait for a sitting. Call 112 for any emergency, or 108 for an ambulance in Tamil Nadu. For mental-health distress or thoughts of self-harm, Tele-MANAS is 14416, free and open at any hour.

  1. 01

We are not a medical practice

Almaya Life is a manual-therapy and wellness centre. It is not a hospital, a clinic, or a licensed medical practice, and it does not hold itself out as one.

The people who conduct sittings here are not registered medical practitioners. They are not doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, psychologists or psychiatrists, and nothing on this site should be read as a claim that they are. Where a qualification is listed next to a name, it is stated exactly as held — read it for what it says, and no more.

  2. 02

Varmam, KiLiK and chiropractic are not regulated professions in India

There is no statutory register, licensing body or government recognition in India for varmam, KiLiK manual therapy, or chiropractic. No one — here or anywhere else in the country — can hold a government licence to practise them, because no such licence exists.

This matters to you as the person deciding whether to come. It means the usual protections that sit behind a registered profession — an admitting authority, a code of conduct, a complaints tribunal — are not there. Please weigh that before you book, and ask us anything you want to ask.

  3. 03

Nothing here diagnoses, treats or cures disease

We do not diagnose. Your first visit is an assessment: we listen, we look at how you move, and we decide together whether hands-on work is likely to help you at all. An assessment is not a diagnosis and must never be treated as one.

The condition guides on this site are general education about what people commonly come to us with. They are not medical advice, they are not specific to you, and they do not establish any kind of practitioner–patient relationship. No therapy described on this site is claimed to cure, treat, prevent or reverse any disease.

Where a guide gives a typical number of sittings, that is a range drawn from experience — not a promise, and not a course of treatment prescribed for you. What any one body needs is settled at the assessment, and sometimes the answer is that we are not the right people to help.

  4. 04

Do not stop or change prescribed medication

Never stop, reduce, delay or alter any medication, treatment or therapy prescribed to you by a registered medical practitioner because of anything you read here or anything said to you during a sitting. We will never ask you to.

If you are under medical care, our work is complementary to it, not a replacement for it. Tell your doctor you are seeing us, and tell us what your doctor has said. Both halves of that matter.

  5. 05

When to see a doctor first

Some things need a registered medical practitioner before they need hands. Please see a doctor first — and tell us — if you have any of the following:

    • +Chest pain, breathlessness, or pain spreading into the jaw or arm
    • +Sudden weakness, numbness, slurred speech, facial droop, or loss of balance
    • +A fall, accident, suspected fracture, or a joint that will not bear weight
    • +Unexplained weight loss, night pain that wakes you, or fever with joint pain
    • +Numbness around the groin, or loss of bladder or bowel control
    • +A new or changing lump, or bleeding you cannot explain
    • +Any symptom that is getting steadily and quickly worse
  6. 06

    Risks of hands-on work

Manual therapy is physical, and physical work carries risk. Most people feel nothing worse than temporary soreness, tiredness or minor bruising for a day or two. Serious adverse events are rare, but they are documented — particularly in connection with forceful manipulation of the neck — and rare is not the same as impossible.

Tell us before we begin if any of the following apply to you. Some are absolute reasons not to proceed; others simply change how we work:

    • +Osteoporosis, brittle bones, or a previous fracture in the area
    • +Blood-thinning medication, or a bleeding or clotting disorder
    • +Recent surgery, an open wound, or an active infection
    • +Pregnancy, or a recent pregnancy
    • +Cancer, current or past
    • +Uncontrolled blood pressure, or a heart condition
    • +Any unexplained neurological symptom
    • +A history of stroke, or of a blood-vessel problem in the neck
  7. 07

    Children and young people

Anyone under 18 must have written consent from a parent or legal guardian, and that parent or guardian must remain in the room for the whole sitting. We do not treat minors alone, and we will not make an exception to this.

  8. 08

Results vary, and nothing is guaranteed

Two people with the same complaint can respond entirely differently to the same work. Anything you read here about how people commonly feel afterwards is a description of experience, not a prediction about yours, and not a guarantee of any outcome.

You may stop a sitting at any point, for any reason, without explanation. Say so and we stop.
