Understanding depression

Depression is more than sadness — it is a whole-system state. Sleep loses its depth, energy drains, appetite shifts, and the body itself often feels heavy and braced. Stress hormones stay elevated, muscles hold quiet tension, and the world narrows to what feels manageable, which is usually less and less. Because mind and body feed each other in both directions, this is also where supportive care can help: easing the body's side of the state can make the mind's side a little lighter to carry.

How our therapies help

Our sessions are built around gentleness and rhythm. Shiatsu offers slow, steady, touch-based pressure across the body — a form of care that eases physical tension and provides the settling, grounding contact that low mood so often starves us of. Relaxation Techniques use breath, calming music, and sound to guide the nervous system out of its stress state and teach it, session by session, how to rest properly again. Geomancy attends to your surroundings, helping you understand and arrange the energy and flow of your home environment so the spaces you live in support recovery rather than quietly draining it.

Small steps, honest support

We will never promise that massage cures depression — it does not, and anyone who says otherwise is not being honest with you. What a course of supportive sessions can do is real and worthwhile: better sleep, a softer body, a weekly hour of genuine rest, and small daily practices that rebuild momentum. Combined with professional mental health care, those steps add up.

Questions we are asked

Is this a replacement for therapy or medication?+

No. Depression deserves professional mental health care, and our sessions are designed to support that care, not substitute for it. Please continue any treatment your doctor or therapist has recommended.

How can body-based therapy help a mood problem?+

Depression lives in the body as well as the mind — heaviness, tension, shallow breathing, poor sleep. Calming, rhythmic touch and guided relaxation ease that physical layer, which many clients find creates a little space for everything else to improve.

What is a typical course like?+

Usually six to ten weekly sessions. Early sessions focus purely on rest and settling the nervous system; later ones build in the practices and environmental changes that help the gains last.

What if I am having thoughts of harming myself?+

Please treat that as an emergency and seek help now — contact your doctor, a crisis helpline, or emergency services immediately. You deserve urgent, professional support, and our doors remain open alongside it.
